Ottawa Inline Hockey League Rulebook

1. Game Format

  1. Each game will consist of two (2) periods of twenty-two (22) minutes.

  2. The clock will run continuously except for:

    • The last two (2) minutes of the second period if the score difference is two (2) goals or less.

    • Any injury stoppages or official timeouts.

2. Overtime & Shootouts

  1. If a game is tied at the end of regulation, a five (5) minute sudden-death overtime will be played in a 3-on-3 format.

  2. If the game remains tied after overtime, a shootout will determine the winner.

  3. Each team will designate three (3) shooters for the initial round.

  4. If still tied, a sudden-death shootout will follow with alternating shooters until a winner is decided.

  5. No player may shoot twice until all eligible players on their team have attempted a shot.

3. Gameplay Rules

  1. This is a non-contact league – body checking is not permitted.

  2. Incidental contact may occur but will be judged at the discretion of the officials.

  3. Any intentional or dangerous contact will result in penalties.

4. Penalties & Enforcement

  1. Minor penalties will be two (2) minutes, served as running time.

  2. Major penalties will be five (5) minutes and may include additional disciplinary action.

  3. A game misconduct will result in immediate ejection and potential further suspension, subject to league review.

  4. Fighting will result in an automatic game ejection and review for possible suspension.

5. Conduct & Sportsmanship

  1. Abuse of officials, players, or spectators will not be tolerated.

    • Verbal abuse, excessive arguing, or disrespectful conduct towards officials will result in penalties or ejection.

  2. Players must respect opponents and maintain a competitive but fair game environment.

  3. Any form of discrimination, hate speech, or unsportsmanlike conduct will lead to disciplinary action.

6. Equipment

  1. All players must wear proper inline hockey gear, including a helmet with a chin strap, gloves, shinpads, and highly recommended elbow pads, and jock. 

  2. Goalies must wear ROLLERBLADES, as well as all other full protective gear, including a mask, chest protector, pads, blocker, and glove.

  3. Players are encouraged to wear a visor or full cage for safety.

7. League Structure

  1. The league will operate in a regular-season format followed by playoffs.

  2. Standings will be determined based on points:

    • Win: 2 points

    • Overtime/Shootout Loss: 1 point

    • Regulation Loss: 0 points

  3. Playoff format will be determined based on the number of teams.

8. Rule Adjustments

  1. The league reserves the right to amend or modify rules as necessary to maintain fair play and safety.

  2. Any disputes or rule clarifications will be addressed by the league committee and officials.
